Everything in Our Sod Installation Service
One quote covers the whole job. Here’s what goes into every sod installation we do in Burleson and the surrounding cities.
Measure & Plan
We walk the yard with you, measure the square footage and talk through sun, shade, slopes and drainage.
Old Grass Removal
Dead turf, weeds and old runners come out, so they don’t grow back up through your new lawn.
Grading & Leveling
We fill low spots, smooth bumps and slope the yard away from your foundation so water drains the right way.
Soil Preparation
The ground is loosened and raked smooth, and we add soil where it’s needed so the roots have something to grow into.
Tight, Staggered Install
Pieces are laid in a brick pattern with tight seams, cut cleanly around beds, walks and trees, then rolled.
Water-In & Care Plan
We soak the new sod and leave you a week-by-week watering and mowing schedule to get it rooted.
The Best Sod for Burleson, TX Lawns
North Texas summers are hot and dry, and most Burleson yards sit on heavy clay. These are the three warm-season grasses that do best here.
St. Augustine
The most popular choice for Burleson front yards. Wide, deep-green blades and the best shade tolerance of the three, so it suits yards with mature oaks and pecans. It needs regular summer watering and doesn’t love heavy foot traffic.
Bermuda
Tough, fine-bladed and built for full sun and hard use. Bermuda recovers fast from kids, dogs and play, and handles heat and drought well. It thins out in shade, so it’s best for open yards.
Zoysia
A dense, soft carpet that handles sun, some shade and foot traffic. It spreads slower and costs more up front, but it crowds out weeds well and needs less mowing once it’s established.
Not sure which grass fits your yard? Tell us how much sun each area gets and how you use it, and we’ll recommend one when we quote. Plenty of yards use St. Augustine in a shady front yard and Bermuda in a sunny backyard.
Sod Installation FAQs
Answers to the questions Burleson homeowners ask us most about new sod.
How much does sod installation cost in Burleson, TX?
Sod is priced per square foot, and the total depends on the size of the area, the type of grass, how much old turf has to be removed, and how much grading and soil prep your yard needs. We measure your yard in person and give you a free, itemized quote with no obligation.
How long does it take to install sod?
Most residential sod installations take one to two days, including removing the old grass, grading and laying the new sod. Very large yards or jobs with a lot of grading can take longer. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.
Can you lay new sod over old grass?
We don’t recommend it. Sod laid over existing grass and weeds can’t root into the soil properly, and the old grass and weeds often grow back through it. We remove the old turf and prepare the soil first so your new lawn lasts.
What type of sod is best for Burleson?
It depends on your yard. St. Augustine is the most popular choice and handles shade best. Bermuda is the toughest option for full sun, kids and dogs. Zoysia is a dense, soft lawn that handles sun, some shade and traffic. We’ll recommend the right grass when we look at your yard.
What is the best time of year to lay sod in North Texas?
Late spring through summer is the best time for warm-season grasses in North Texas, because they root fastest when it’s warm. Early fall also works well. Sod can be laid dormant in winter as long as the ground isn’t frozen, but it won’t root in until spring.
How often should I water new sod?
Keep the sod and the soil underneath it damp for the first week, which usually means watering every day in two or three short cycles. Cut back to once a day in week two and every other day in week three. After about a month, switch to deep watering of about an inch a week, following your city’s current watering rules.
When can I walk on or mow my new sod?
Keep foot traffic to a minimum for the first two weeks. Once the sod has rooted, usually after two to three weeks, it will resist when you tug on a corner. That’s when you can do the first mow on a high setting.
Do you grade and level the yard before laying sod?
Yes. Grading is part of our sod installation. We fill low spots, smooth out bumps and slope the soil away from your foundation so water drains properly, then prepare the soil so the new sod can root.
Do you install sod for new construction homes?
Yes. We install sod on new-construction lots, including finish grading and soil prep, and we can install your landscape beds, rock and mulch at the same time.
Do you remove the old grass and haul it away?
Yes. Removing the old grass, weeds and debris is included in our sod installation quote when your yard needs it, and we haul it away when we’re done.
